Massachusetts has been ranked the ninth most generous state in the nation based on repeat donors, according to GoFundMe’s 2025 Year in Help report released earlier this week. Beyond that statewide ranking, two Bay State counties were named among the most generous communities in America.
The annual report highlights GoFundMe’s biggest moments of giving, revealing that an average of 2.5 donations were made every second worldwide in 2025.
Across the Bay State, donors stepped up to help neighbors through natural disasters, medical crises, moments of grief, and everyday financial hardships.
This year’s data placed Massachusetts among the top five states with the highest percentage of returning donors — a key metric GoFundMe uses to measure sustained generosity and repeat giving.
The organization highlighted some of the campaigns in Massachusetts that drew the most attention throughout the state.
-
Honor Bruce Higgins — more than $222,000 raised
- Help Mark and Family Through Crisis — more than $229,000 raised
- Hope for Haddie - more than $242,720 raised
- Wildfire Relief Fund — more than $8 million raised
While generosity was seen across nearly every corner of the state, two communities stood out. Hampshire County ranked as the third most generous community in the country, while Berkshire County placed 12th overall.
