BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - A winner is expected to be announced Friday, December 12, 2025 in a mayoral race recount in Blacksburg between Peter Macedo and Michael Sutphin.

Last month, Sutphin was declared the winner by 18 votes . However, Macedo filed for a recount .

Thousands of ballots will be counted again by five automatic scanners and three teams of people are expected to count by hand.

Three Montgomery County Circuit Court judges will preside over the recount.

When all the ballots are recorded, the court plans to review everything and certify the election.
