Archaeologists have unearthed an ancient mural of Jesus in Turkey that corresponds to one of the Bible's most well-known verses. The artwork, believed to be from the third century, appears to depict Jesus as the "Good Shepherd" as he carries a goat across his shoulders among a field of goats, wearing a simple tunic.

Turkish authorities described the discovery as the only early Christian-era example of its kind beyond Italy. It was unearthed in a subterranean chamber tomb in the Hisardere Necropolis, an extensive cemetery that dates back to between the second and fifth centuries AD in modern-day Turkey , in the Iznik district.
