The Trump administration is violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by refusing to release records related to agreements with nine Big Law firms to provide nearly $1 billion in free legal services to the government, according to a transparency-focused watchdog group.
In a 16-page complaint filed Thursday, American Oversight accuses the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Department of Justice of repeatedly violating FOIA laws by failing to release various sorts of requested information about the controversial arrangements.
The lawsuit comes in response to a marquee dual-pronged effort by the second Trump administration with regard to Big Law's presence and utility within the highest echelons of governmental power.
