HM Revenue & Customs is urging UK households to check if they are eligible to sign up to a savings account that pays 50 per cent in bonuses.

The account in question pays up to £1,200 in tax-free bonuses, with 1.5 million more families eligible for the Help to Save account from April 2028.

From that date, everyone receiving Universal Credit will be included in those eligible for the scheme.

The account will pay savers a 50 per cent bonus on their savings, which are capped at a maximum of £2,400 over a four-year period.
