GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Hudsonville 19-year-old facing a federal machine gun possession charge is asking a judge to dismiss his case.
Ethan Carter's legal counsel filed a 27-page brief this week in U.S. District Court, arguing that the law banning machine guns is unconstitutional when applied to firearms kept inside a person's home.
Carter is accused of possessing a Glock pistol fitted with a so-called “Glock switch” and multiple machinegun conversion devices at his family’s home in Hudsonville.
Federal agents discovered the items during a July 2025 search, which happened shortly after Carter was shot seven times in an unrelated attack while attending a football training program in Alabama.
Carter has pleaded not guilty.
The motion asks U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker to dismiss
