DES MOINES, Iowa —

The National Labor Relations Board is evaluating more than 250 ballots cast during the voting process for a potential nurses' union at UnityPoint Health, with both sides disputing the results.

Heather Torrence, an ER nurse at Lutheran Hospital, expressed confidence in the outcome. "We were confident we would win," Torrence said. She added, "Nurses want to see a change with this organization."

In contrast, Lifeflight nurse Phill Lee hoped for a different result. "We were certainly hoping for a different outcome yesterday," Lee said. He expressed concerns about the practical implications, stating, "It looks real nice on paper and sound. It's a nice soundbite. But the practical aspect of it is we just need more nurses."
