Puttur, Dec 12: A herd of wild elephants caused extensive damage to the plantation of Mohanadas Kamat, a resident of Neerakatte in Bajattur village near Uppinangady, after entering his property and destroying banana plants along with several other crops.
The incident occurred around 3.15 am on Friday, when dogs began barking unusually loudly.
On inspection, it was found that elephants had entered the plantation and wrecked the banana trees. Their movement also damaged the water pipeline system installed in the garden, and the protective fencing was torn down.
Beehive boxes placed in the plantation were also destroyed in the attack, resulting in heavy losses, the owner reported.
This marks the third elephant raid since the start of the monsoon.
