The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate who'd been hospitalized after suffering a medical emergency at the jail.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office identified the man as Gregory Hamilton, 54, of Harvey.

Hamilton was pronounced dead about 3 a.m. Friday at a local hospital, according to Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office.

An autopsy will be performed. Rivarde said there is no indication that Hamilton's death was anything other than natural.

Hamilton was first arrested Nov. 20 on several warrants, including a fugitive warrant out of Liberty County, Texas, according to court records.
