JEFFERSON PARISH, La. —

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an in-custody death Friday.

According to the sheriff's office, the inmate died in the custody of the sheriff's office following a medical incident. Advertisement

The incident happened around 3 a.m. The inmate, a 55-year-old man, was being treated at an area hospital.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of his death, but there is no indication that it was anything other than natural, according to the sheriff's office.

According to the sheriff, the man was initially transferred to the hospital several days ago after having a medical emergency at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
