CLEVELAND, Ohio — City Hall will send nearly $300,000 to small businesses and a community development organization using revenue generated by tax incentives originally set up for Steelyard Commons.
Grants will be given to 21 small businesses across six neighborhoods — Slavic Village, Tremont, Clark-Fulton, Old Brooklyn, Lorain Station and Ohio City, according to a news release. It’s the second round of grants announced this year, with Cleveland announcing $475,000 worth of grants in July.
Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation will also receive funding in the latest round of grants.
Funding for these grants comes from a tax-increment financing deal, or a TIF, that was created to help build Steelyard Commons in 2006. TIFs are used to divert property taxes to pay for development,
