GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is looking into a report of vandalism at Richmond Park involving the removal of an evergreen tree.

A 13 ON YOUR SIDE photojournalist found the remnants of a tree in the snow alongside a makeshift memorial sitting on the stump near Richmond Pond late Friday morning.

The box said, "Two people did this yesterday and drove off...with their X-mas tree on top. Police were called. Sad!"

A City of Grand Rapids spokesperson declined an on-camera interview about the situation, but did share this statement:

"The Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is currently reviewing the site of the reported vandalism. If the damage is confirmed, a police report will likely be filed. Once documented by the Grand Rapids Police Depar
