(WKYT) — Today’s Good Question is: What is the difference between a winter weather warning vs. an advisory?
There are three main levels to know when it comes to weather alerts.
Winter Storm Watch: Lowest alert level
At the lowest level you have a watch. The National Weather Service says a watch is used when the risk of a hazardous weather or hydrologic event has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location or timing is still uncertain.
Those are issued to give people time to prepare for weather events. Hazardous weather is possible, so people should make a plan in case it arrives.
Winter Weather Advisory: Moderate alert level
At the next level you have an advisory. That is issued “when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely.”
