Kingston boys basketball player Derek Bynum and Klahowya girls flag football player Macayla Wrataric are the Kitsap Sun athletes of the week for Dec. 1-6, selected by readers in an online poll .

Athletes are nominated by their respective coaches, and the top vote-getters for both boys and girls are declared the winners.

Bynum, a sophomore, averaged 16.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks across three games for the Buccaneers. He collected 312 votes. Other nominees for boys sports were Bremerton's Jalen Davis (214 votes), Olympic's Weston Adams (99 votes), Klahowya's Carson Wintch (89 votes) and Bremerton's Reece Patti (30 votes).

Wrataric, a junior, scored six touchdowns (4 rushing, 1 receiving, 1 interception return) and recorded another INT and sack/safety in wins across two wins
