PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Riverside school board leaders have finally detailed why they are seeking to fire Superintendent Christopher J. Rateno, tying their misconduct allegations to months of conflict over the Buckeye Elementary construction project, and to Rateno’s role in a Nov. 8 community meeting about the work.

The new details came to light this week, right as a judge temporarily blocked the board from permanently moving $4.6 million out of the general fund, thrusting the district into simultaneous administrative and legal battles during its final weeks before Board President Scott Fishel and Vice President Dennis Keeney leave office after losing reelection.

The outgoing majority — Fishel and Keeney, along with member Denise Brewster — has until Dec. 31 to finalize any action.
