LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A foundation has given a special gift to a state trooper injured in the line of duty.
Trooper Alex Douglass was wounded back in 2014 when a gunman opened fire at the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County.
His injuries included a right leg amputation. He now relies on a prosthetic leg, wheelchair, or crutches.
This week, the Tunnels to Towers Foundation paid off Douglass's mortgage and renovated his Olyphant home to give him a greater sense of independence.
The renovations include a chair lift, a whole-home generator, and smart technology. Trooper Douglass calls the upgrades "a dream come true."
