ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- North Valley students got a glimpse of life at the North Pole.

Second graders from Elmer Wood Elementary School visited Atwater High School, where the wood shop became Santa's Workshop.

The young builders got hands-on experience making wooden cars and trucks.

The instructor says the "holiday hobby" is aimed at sparking imagination.

"You got to spread some Christmas cheer around and get the students involved," says Dan Flatt. "The more you can get people to help out the community, that's a win for everybody".

The idea began with an "email" from Santa, asking for the workshop space to make toys.

The students were able to take home their handmade creations.
