Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) If the New York Islanders remain in the playoff hunt, could absolutely see them looking to add ahead of the trade deadline. They lost Kyle Palmieri for the season and defenseman Alexander Romanov for five to six months. They may get full LTIR relief for Palmieri. They should be active at the deadline.
The Columbus Blue Jackets recently signed Brendan Smith to play on their third pair to see if it works. They could decide to look elsewhere for a left handed D with some size and snarl. It makes sense for them to try and upgrade there.
