EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — The East Grand Forks Police Department has brought back its program that allows food or cash donations to the city's food shelf in lieu of payment for certain parking violations throughout December.

The East Grand Forks City Council gave its approval for the program to continue, according to a press release issued by East Grand Forks Police Chief Michael Hedlund on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The program allows people who have received either calendar parking or snow emergency parking tickets to "pay" for their fine by donating five non-perishable food items at the police department, which will then be given to the East Grand Forks Food Shelf, the release said.
