RUSK, Texas — The City of Rusk placed its police chief on administrative leave for the second time in a year.

According to City Manager Bob Goldsberry, Scott Heagney was placed on administrative leave Thursday. Officials did not give a reason for why he was placed on leave.

Goldsberry said the move is not related to Heagney's previous leave in April. Sgt. Jeremy Farmer will handle the department's day-to-day operations. Goldsberry told CBS19 he is the acting police chief while Heagney is on leave.

An investigation surrounding Heagney's departure is still ongoing, and there is currently no timeline on when he is expected to return. The decision was made ahead of Thursday's scheduled city council meeting. The city said they are awaiting information from multiple outside entities.
