CORDES JUNCTION, AZ (AZFamily) — Deputies stopped a suspect at the Arizona-Mexico border who was wanted for reportedly sexually assaulting a woman at a gas station earlier this year.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Ramses Cortes-Cordova was taken into custody on Dec. 8 as he was attempting to cross the border into Arizona. Deputies say Cortes-Cordova, who is a Mexican citizen, was stopped by border patrol agents before being turned over to Homeland Security.

In April, deputies received a report of a sexual assault at a gas station in Cordes Junction, located southeast of Prescott. Investigators say a woman was using one of the showers when Cortes-Cordova went inside her stall, pinned her against the wall and sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to break away and
