The Department of Homeland Security is shutting down all Family Reunification Parole programs for nationals of Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti and Honduras — marking a sweeping reversal of long-standing humanitarian parole policy.
According to DHS, the programs had allowed “poorly vetted” individuals to bypass the traditional case-by-case parole process, creating security vulnerabilities and opportunities for fraud.
The agency said ending the programs is part of an effort to return parole to its original, limited use and to prioritize national security, public safety and the “financial and economic well-being of Americans.”
