COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus City Council this week approved $10 million for the Central Ohio Community Land Trust, the latest investment in the city's effort to expand affordable housing options.
The money from the city's Affordable Housing Bond Fund will enable the land trust to continue building new homes for families earning up to 120% of the area median income.
Bailey Phillips, a social worker and mother of two, purchased her Columbus home through the land trust four years ago with her husband.
"It was something that we didn't think that was really possible for us, so we jumped at the opportunity," Phillips said.
The land trust develops housing and retains ownership of the land, while eligible families purchase the structures.
