NEW HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - It’s a big weekend for winter sports in Connecticut as ski areas around the state open their slopes for the season.

Mohawk Mountain in West Cornwall already had its opening weekend earlier this month and plans to reopen this weekend for more skiing and snowboarding.

Ski Sundown in New Hartford opened for the season Friday, with people hitting the slopes this afternoon for the first time this winter.

Many skiers and snowboarders will be experiencing their first runs of the season as Connecticut’s winter sports season gets underway.

The openings mark the start of what winter sports enthusiasts hope will be a busy season on Connecticut’s mountains.
