Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram said he wanted to keep fares "as affordable as possible"
The £2 cap on single bus fares in the Liverpool City Region will remain in place beyond January 1 2026, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has announced. Earlier this month, it had been reported the cap would end, following a national fare increase that raised the flat rate for a one-way journey to £3 earlier this year.
Metro Mayor Rotheram today (December 12) confirmed the lower fare would be retained into 2026. In a post on his X account, Mr Rotheram said: "Following agreement at a meeting of the Combined Authority, the fare cap will be extended for a further six months, keeping travel accessible and affordable across the City Region."
