The face-off between Mayor Karen Bass and some council members has been brewing since the council voted to reduce LAPD hiring to 240 officers this year.

Bass and Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson said they would find the money for more new police officers.

On Friday, the council approved the hiring of one additional class of 40 police recruits in January.
