DEFOREST, Wis. (WKOW) – A major data center proposal in DeForest sparked residents to start a petition demanding more transparency from village leaders.
Residents of DeForest and neighboring towns have garnered around 1,120 signatures in just six days.
Some residents in DeForest and the nearby town of Vienna are voicing concerns about the environmental, financial, and community impacts of the project.
"I will not stick around, I will not spend time looking at that," said a resident of Vienna, expressing her willingness to move if the data center is built.
She added, "There were very few people that thought [the petition] was a bad idea. We had an outpouring of a vast majority of people saying where do I sign."
