PHOENIX — The tractors are rolling, and construction crews are breaking ground. But a small rural Arizona community is trying to make it stop.
Since energy giant Kinder Morgan secured an agreement in October with the Arizona State Land Department to build a 7-acre natural gas compressor facility, the unincorporated community of Haystack Ranches has pleaded for an appeals hearing. They allege Kinder Morgan deceived the government while securing a lease for the site and they also want the state to conduct its own environmental impact studies.
“I haven’t really gotten an answer and that’s the most aggravating part,” said resident Michael Colasuonno. "This is about our families, our animals and our livelihood."
