A fundraising appeal is being launched to save a Darlington dance class for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. PETER BARRON reports from the dancefloor

THERE can’t be many dance classes that combine the virtues of Flamenco, ballet, jazz, tap, the iconic Pulp Fiction twist, and The Haka, made famous by the New Zealand rugby team.

But this is no ordinary dance class. Expertly run by Elaine Harvey in the back room of a Darlington community centre, it’s devoted to people living with Parkinson’s – and all kinds of movement are beneficial to the participants.

Elaine, born and raised in Darlington, has had a lifelong passion for dance. “Wanting to get up and dance is my earliest memory,” she admits.
