George Sourlis was swarmed by smiles and embraces on Friday night.
In Rumson, Sourlis made his anticipated return to the court where he grew into a legend. He played for Rumson-Fair Haven basketball over four decades ago, then went on to win over 650 games as the coach of the girls team.
In recent years, Sourlis was coaching just down Ridge Road for the Red Bank Regional boys squad, where he became the second coach in Shore Conference history to eclipse 700 overall wins.
But Sourlis was beckoned back to his roots, and this time for the team he and his son Teddy played for when they were each in high school.
The welcome home felt warmer on a freezing December 13 night when Sourlis stood up from his crouched position near the scorer’s table and saw that his team had just registered an 8
