ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KVOA) - In a month's time, the Amphitheater Governing Board may decide to close four elementary schools, including Copper Creek Elementary School. Parents from Copper Creek have organized a grassroots movement to oppose this recommendation.

Amphi Public Schools Superintendent Todd Jaeger has cited declining enrollment and rising operational costs as reasons for his recommendation. However, a petition demanding Copper Creek not be closed has more than 1,000 signatures.

Jaeger informed the governing board this week that school closures are necessary, saying the district will be unable to pay its debts without them.
