In a dramatic reshaping of Kerala’s local political landscape, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) recorded historic gains on Saturday, capturing the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and wresting control of the Tripunithura Municipality from the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) as counting in the 2025 local body elections neared completion.

The twin victories mark a significant breakthrough for the BJP in a state where it has long struggled to convert vote share into control of local bodies, particularly in urban centres.
