Two people died in a blast at a residential property in south Wales. Emergency crews rushed to tackle a blaze on Heol Fawr in Nelson, close to Treharris, on Friday night.

Gwent Police confirmed that officers alongside firefighters from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the location after receiving reports of an explosion at approximately 6.10pm in the rear garden of the two-storey dwelling. Both victims were declared dead at the scene, authorities said.

Nearby residents received advice to ensure all doors and windows remained shut whilst emergency services dealt with the situation.
