HOUSTON – A wrecker driver hit a disabled car on the Southwest Freeway, killing the driver, according to police.

The crash happened on the Southwest Freeway and Fountain View at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Police said a small black Mazda was disabled in a southbound lane, when a wrecker driver crashed into it and pushed it up a good distance up the freeway.

The driver of the Mazda died at the scene.

The wrecker driver was not injured and was cooperating with the investigation.

“The investigation is ongoing. We’re looking into the factors that lead up to this crash, but no charges have been filed at this point,” said Sgt. Michael Barrow with the Houston Police Department.

The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for hours but have since reopened.
