Peter Greene, a renowned character actor who starred in Pulp Fiction and The Mask, was found dead in his New York apartment on Friday, according to the New York Post. His cause of death has yet to be determined by medical examiners, but police say foul play is not expected, the Post reports.
The tall, blue-eyed actor was largely known for playing villains in the 1990s. He was the main antagonist in The Mask and in Pulp Fiction made a chillingly memorable turn as Zed, a sadistic security guard. Greene has over 90 acting credits to his name and was set to begin production on the Mickey Rourke-starring independent thriller Mascots in January.
“Truly one of the great actors of our generation," Greene's longtime manager, Gregg Edwards, told the Post. "His heart was as big as there was. I’m going to miss him. He was a great friend.”
Greene, a Montclair, N.J. native, is survived by sister Mary Anne Greene and brother John Greene. While Greene was briefly married in the 1990s, he got divorced and chose not to remarry, and he did not have children.
Few actors could match Greene's intensity on screen. His presence will be missed.
