A number of residents living in New York, and surrounding states on the East Coast, reported seeing a fireball streaking across the sky. The sightings occurred the night of December 7, according to reports filed to the American Meteor Society .
The event comes during an active period for astronomy types, as Primer Time had previously reported that the Cold Moon appeared towards the eastern horizon just after sunset.

Space.com had also reported that the Geminid meteor shower will run through December 24, and peaks overnight on December 13 and 14. The Geminid meteor shower is the debris left from the rock comet 3200 Phaethon. The shower averages around 150 meteors per hour.
