Abraham Quintanilla , the father of late Tejano music legend Selena , has died. He was 86.

The patriarch, who managed Selena’s music career and produced multiple onscreen projects about her life over the years, died on Saturday morning, according to a social media post shared by his son Abraham Quintanilla III.

“It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today…” he wrote Saturday on Instagram .

Born Feb. 22, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Abraham II was a musician who started in the singing group Los Dinos in 1956, before retiring from music in the late ’60s to start a family with wife Marcella. Upon realizing his daughter Selena’s vocal talents, he came out of retirement to nurture her musical career.
