BENGALURU: There seems to be no end to farmers’ suicides in the state. As per the government’s data on farmers’ death in the past two-and–half years, more than a thousand farmers have ended their lives.
The suicide numbers are rising every year in Haveri, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, Yadgir and Shivamogga. There are allegations that the government has kept pending compensation in farmer suicide cases. Now the public is asking whether the government is finding it difficult to give compensation to the families of the deceased farmers.
In 2023‑24 there were 1,090 farmer suicide cases and compensation was paid to 1,081 families, with nine cases pending. In 2024‑25, there were 1,022 farmer suicide cases and compensation was paid to 896 families with 121 cases still p
