Syracuse, N.Y. — Smoke and fire heavily damaged a second-floor apartment on Syracuse’s South Side Saturday afternoon.
Around 12:42 p.m., neighbors called 911 after seeing smoke and flames pouring from a second-floor apartment at the Brighton Place Townhouses, 504 W. Brighton Ave., said Deputy Chief James Farewell of the Syracuse Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found heavy smoke and flames coming from Apartment 25 on the second floor. Firefighters went inside the building, searched the apartment and determined no one was inside.
One resident was home in the building at the time but was locked out of the apartment when the fire started, Farewell said.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, but the apartment sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.
