KINGSTON, N.Y. — For the first 11 minutes of the game, Kingston High’s defense was doing a pretty decent job on Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) star guard TT Burden in the first game of this season’s intense rivalry between the two Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) schools on Friday, Dec. 12 at the Kate Walton Field House.

The Tigers had limited Burden to seven points and used a quick 7-0 burst to take a 20-16 lead on junior guard Maygan Carney’s layup with 5:30 left in the second quarter, which had Kingston High girls basketball coach Steve Garner and his bench jumping for joy.

But Burden quickly soured the Tigers’ pre-holiday mood by scoring 17 of the Goldbacks’ next 21 points in a 21-5 run that put the visitors ahead
