CLEVELAND, Ohio — John Carroll’s defense forced seven turnovers and built a commanding lead Saturday, holding off a late rally by Berry to win 21-13 in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals at Berry College in Georgia.
The ninth-ranked Blue Streaks intercepted Berry five times and recovered two fumbles to improve to 12-1 and advance to the national semifinals for the third time in program history. The 17th-ranked Vikings finished their season at 11-2.
The matchup was the first ever between the two schools and John Carroll’s first game in Georgia. The Blue Streaks will face the winner of top-ranked and defending national champion North Central (IL) and fourth-ranked Bethel (MN) in the semifinals. John Carroll is 0-2 all-time in national semifinal games.
