Andy Toole borrowed a Curt Cignetti-ism to try and encapsulate how Robert Morris men’s basketball accomplished what, roughly 90 minutes prior, seemed so improbable.
At one point on Saturday afternoon against Toledo at UPMC Events Center, the Colonials trailed by 21 points. They looked lifeless. They shot 33.3% from the field through the first 20 minutes, including a grisly 1 of 12 (8.3%) from beyond the arc.
Shortly after the game, Toole was smiling inside the arena’s press room after Robert Morris’ 75-70 triumph, which marked the second-largest comeback in program history. Part of the key to that mammoth turnaround, Toole said, stemmed from an idea he took from Indiana football’s coach.
