Auburn basketball’s sophomore center Emeka Opurum will miss the remainder of the 2025-2026 season with an undisclosed medical condition, head coach Steven Pearl announced Saturday afternoon.

Opurum played in six games this year, averaging 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks a game while playing 9.6 minutes a contest.

“Our priority is Emeka’s health and wellbeing,” Pearl said in a statement. “We look forward to Emeka making a full recovery and returning next season.”

The 7-footer out of Butler Community College averaged 9.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game prior to transferring to Auburn. He was also named the KJCC Defensive Player of the Year in 2025.

Auburn’s frontcourt will now feature KeShawn Murphy, Sebastian Williams-Adams and Filip Jovic as the Tigers’ true Bigs.
