PROVIDENCE − Brown University is on lockdown after reports of an active shooter near the Barus and Holley Engineering building on Thayer Street.
The university's Department of Public Safety sent a campus-wide alert at 4:22 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, urging students and staff to run, hide and fight (as a last resort) due to the presence of an "active shooter."
The Brown Daily Herald posted an article to its site saying: "video footage obtained by The Herald showed several police officers on campus, as well as several emergency vehicles on the surrounding roads. Additional footage depicted several individuals lying on the ground near the Sciences Library appearing to be assisted by police."
A reporter on the scene counted at least 12 ambulances lined up on Waterman Street, and lots of police
