WEST PLAINS, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) -The City of West Plains has officially declared Dec. 13 as Dick Van Dyke Day in honor of the actor’s centennial birthday.
According to a Facebook post from Explore West Plains, Van Dyke lived in West Plains for a few months as a baby, but he was born in the city at Christa Hogan Hospital.
The following is a proclamation from West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff.
WHEREAS, Richard “Dick” Van Dyke, born Dec. 13, 1925, in West Plains, Missouri, stands as one of the most beloved and enduring figures in American entertainment; and
WHEREAS, though his time in West Plains was brief- his family returning to their hometown of Danville, Illinois, the following spring- his birthplace proudly claims him as one of its most distinguished native sons; and
