WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue basketball ’s brief acceptance of Marquette as an unofficial 19th member of Big Ten Conference basketball ended Saturday.

The No. 6 Boilermakers separated from their recent regular dance partner with a 79-59 pounding at Mackey Arena. Braden Smith , Fletcher Loyer and Trey Kaufman-Renn have never known a season which did not involve a matchup with Shaka Smart’s program and the offensive awareness, defensive intensity and attention to detail it demands.
