Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a shooting at Brown University, the university posted.

On Sunday, Providence police said a person of interest was in custody. The shooting was reported at the Barus and Holley engineering building on Brown's Providence, R.I., campus. • University officials said students were scheduled to take final exams in the building during the time of the shooting, The New York Times reported.

The nine injured students were in critical condition at the hospital, the Providence Journal reported.
