COLUMBIA — On Saturday, COMO Trail Association began its first start on rerouting Spring Brook Trail in Rock Bridge Memorial State Park.
Nate Smith, the president of COMO Trail Association, said the association tries not to reroute trails. However, this case brings safety concerns from the trail getting eroded from flooding, getting washed out and overuse.
"There's no way to make the existing trail sustainable, better and safer so we're just going to reroute instead," Smith said.
Rerouting a trail is a longer process than performing maintenance on a trail, which is why the process to get Spring Brook rerouted took four years to begin.
