BIG RAPIDS, Mich.(WIS) - Newberry’s football season came to an end Saturday with a 49-17 loss to defending national champion Ferris State in the Division II semifinals.
The Wolves entered the game on the road against the Bulldogs in frigid conditions, with feels-like temperatures well below zero in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Ferris State jumped out to an early two-score lead when Jake Price ran it in from 12 yards out. The Bulldogs built a 21-0 advantage before Newberry got on the scoreboard.
The Wolves answered with a stellar one-handed catch by Will Young, trailing 21-7 after the first quarter.
Newberry rallied back to make it 21-17, but Ferris State capitalized on turnovers and shut out the Wolves in the second half.
