CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Cedar Rapids Police Department is sharing warming center locations and advice for staying safe as temperatures plummet this weekend.

As temperatures fall below zero with wind chills 25 below zero or colder, Cedar Rapids Police shared the following tips to keep warm and do so in a safe manner:

-Use caution with auxiliary heating units. Keep flammable materials at least 3 feet away.

-Cover exposed skin if you must be outside.

-Bring pets indoors.

-Check on family elderly neighbors.

-Check water supply pipes and run a trickle if needed to prevent freezing.

-Ensure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning properly.
